How to Write a Sincere Card for New Moms, Thank You Cards, & Anniversary Cards

In keeping with my new year’s resolution to write and send one card each week, here is the collection of cards I sent in July: 3 New Mom/Baby Cards, 2 Thank You Cards (one professional and one personal), and one anniversary card!

As I’m getting closer to 30, I seem to be exiting the “everyone is getting married” season of life, and entering the “everyone is having a baby” season. If you find yourself in a similar season of life, this card and this card I sent each come as a box of 6 to easily have plenty on hand so you're ready to bless each new mom and baby as quickly as possible!

Here’s how I wrote a meaningful card to new moms:

Dear Mama Card for New Moms

I sent this one along with a meal and Starbucks gift card!

"I hope this meal blesses you in this hard season. Praying for you in these newborn days—I can definitely relate to many of your nursing struggles & am happy to listen and lament about them any time! [my phone number]"

No Better Mama Card for New Moms

I sent this one with a Starbucks gift card and Cool Mom Sticker!

"I am SO happy for you as you welcome your baby girl & enter into motherhood! I'm praying for you in this crazy newborn and postpartum stage that can be both the most joy-filled and hardest time on your little fam. Here's a little something to help treat yourself on a hard day (or to simply help you stay awake!) I'm happy to talk babies, sleep, nursing struggles, and all the things any time! [my phone number]"

Card writing tip: add your phone number.

Many of us say things like “let me know if you ever want to talk!” when writing in cards. This can be another one of those well-meaning, but empty offers of help as the recipient may feel like you're just saying that to be nice or they don't know how to contact you. If it takes extra effort or uncertainty, someone who is hurting or exhausted likely won't take you up on that offer. Adding your phone number in the card is a great way to show that you really do mean it, and makes sure they easily have access to contact you.

I have had multiple moms reach out to me right after receiving the card with my number written in it and have been able to further lament with them in their struggles & encourage them in an ongoing way!

Welcome Little One Card for New Baby

This one was for a friend having her first boy after 3 girls, so I loved sending her the blue color version of this card to help further celebrate that! I sent it along with one of the Starbucks gift cards I've been keeping on hand for cards, and a Motherhood is Kingdom Work Sticker.

Here's an excerpt from what I wrote to this seasoned mom:

"Congratulations + many blessings on your adorable baby BOY! …I'm so happy he is home with you all now and experiencing loads of love from his big sisters! I'm praying for his continued good health, your healing, sleep, sanity, and the Lord's strength through it all!"

Letterpress Thank You Card for Professional Thank You

One local shop that carries our products was kind enough to leave two raving reviews for us on Faire (a platform for stores to purchase our products wholesale to carry in their stores). I sent the owner this locally printed Letterpress Thank You card to make sure they knew how appreciated this was, both professionally and personally.

Here's what I wrote in this business Thank You Card:

"Thank you so much for leaving not one, but two reviews for us on Faire. It's such a help for our business, and just made me so happy to hear how much your customers are loving our products. Thank you for the encouragement + ongoing support—it's such a blessing!"

Card Writing Tip: Write & Send Handwritten Notes at Work

I sent the card as a genuine thank you, but as an added blessing, they placed another order with us shortly after I sent the card! Taking the time to write/send handwritten notes to a coworker or client is a powerful way to (most importantly) deepen your personal connection with them, but it can also lead to further blessings and better rapport down the road.

Green Foliage Thank You Card for Personal Thank You

I have once again found myself thankful for members at our church stepping up to help & support us when needed. When our two year old was having a minor surgery this month, one family offered to have our older son spend the night at their place so we could both be present for Henry's procedure first thing in the morning.

Here's what I wrote in this thank you card:

“We can't thank you enough for offering + being willing to watch Zechariah for us during Henry's surgery. It was such a blessing to not have to worry about Z at all and just focus on Henry for the time, and wouldn't have been possible without your help + initiative to offer. Thankful to have you as our church family!”

Writing a 40th Anniversary Card

We headed out of town to attend a 40th Anniversary Party for a friend's parents earlier this month, and I sadly forgot to bring a card! I ended up stopping at one of our retailers in that area, Drift Mercantile, and picked up a card from another independent maker which was also great to do. Above are a couple of Naomi Paper Co. choices I would have grabbed for the occasion!

My husband gets credit for the words inside this card, here's what he wrote:

“We're so thankful that you included us in your special day. Marriage is a blessing, and seeing a strong marriage like yours that has stood the test of time is an encouragement to us all. We wish you many more years of God's grace together!”
